Had a heavy smoker in a 1 bedroom unit in a multi-unit building and the odor spread throughout the building. Need an estimate to remove the smoke odor and clean the furniture in the unit as soon as possible. Thanks.

I would like to schedule an assessment and cleaning estimate for a unit in a fourplex that I own. The tenants that vacated the unit were heavy smokers. The property manager had the unit professionally cleaned, new carpet installed, and new paint on the walls, ceilings, and trim. However, the cigarette smell is still noticeable. The painter did not wash the walls or ceilings before painting and did not apply any primer. We used a chlorine dioxide fogger which reduced the smell. Thanks.

Smoke is often harder to remove from an environment than soot and ash. Smoke removal is the most important part of the fire damage restoration procedure, because it quickly permeates all over the house with different types of smoke gravitating to different parts of the house. This makes smoke removal very difficult and can only be handled by an expert smoke removal company. If this excess smoke in the air is left untreated, it can linger on in the environment over weeks and months, contaminating the air inside with toxic elements that affect the health of those who live in the house.
A professional smoke damage repair company will be equipped with knowledge of the methods used to identified and isolate the various types of smoke and the best methods for their removal. A hot smoke produced by a raging fire for instance, will migrate to the upper parts of the house, making it harder to eliminate because it will find a way to the rest of the house through pipes. Other types of fire include the slow ones that produce wet smoke with a deep pungent odor, and fast burning fires that produce wet smoke. A smoke removal company makes use of special techniques to identify these types and eliminate all traces from the structure.
Once the various kinds of smoke have been identified, your smoke remediation contractor will begin to use special methodologies to remove these traces of smoke. Thermal fogging, which involves the opening of the pores of the walls to neutralize the smoke is used, and this is a particularly effective process in smoke removal. Your belongings will have to be assessed to determine the extent of smoke damage and special chemicals are used to remove smoke form your carpets, upholstery, furniture and furnishings.
